How to I transfer rehome a pet from our rescue to a new keeper
This is the process of rehoming a pet to a new owner once the pet is in your account. If a pet has been surrendered to your rescue and you need to transfer into your account, please see this article.
If you don’t yet have a rescue account you can apply for one HERE.
Step 1
First log into your account here: https://app.mypethq.io/login
Once logged in navigate to pets as shown below.
You can search by status by clicking on the status, then clicking Filter as shown below. You can also search by microchip number, pet name and breed
- In Care = Animals you have not attempted to rehome yet
- Awaiting confirmation = Animals you have attempted to rehome but have not been accepted by the new keeper
- Rehomed = Animals you have rehomed

Step 2
Once you have found the pet you wish to re-home click on him or her as shown below. You can click either the microchip number or the pet name.

Step 3
Once you have clicked the pet you wish to transfer, scroll to the bottom and you’ll see the option “Re-home pet”.
After clicking this button you’re presented with a form to enter the new owner’s details.
- You only need to enter their email address. The new owner will get an email from us to confirm all their details.
- You can enter all their details by clicking “Show more”
Rescue back-up is available to Animal Rescues. Check this box after clicking Show More to add your details to the microchip. Any searches that happen in the future will show your rescue as well as the keeper details.
Once you’ve entered all the details you can click “Rehome pet”.
Once you click this you’ll see a message letting you know the pet has been rehomed. The pet’s status will update to "Rehomed"

In our 31 August 2025 release we amended this process to allow Animal Rescues to instantly rehome animals. Now as a Rescue when you complete this form the pet will be instantly rehomed.
Step 4
The new keeper will receive an email giving them a chance to confirm / amend any details as shown below.
Step 5
When the new keeper clicks “Complete Transfer Now” this will:
- Give the new keeper the chance to set up their account
- Add or update their details
- Update any of the pet details
- Choose their plan

Did you know with MyPet there is always an option where it’s 100% free to register, update and transfer a MyPet microchip?
Step 6
After you complete the rehome process you'll be able to see the pet on your list of animals with a status of rehomed. We'll also show you the date the animal was rehomed.

What happens if the pet owner does not receive the email?
-
If the pet owner doesn’t receive the email, ask them to check their junk mail, on occasions an email may drop into spam. If they still haven’t got it, please reach out the our support team and we can check the email delivery status to see what has happened.
What happens if I enter the wrong email address?
-
Don’t worry if you enter the wrong email address, get in touch with our support team.
What happens if the new keeper doesn’t have an email address?
-
In parts of the UK, it’s a requirement to have an email address attached to a microchip registration. When a keeper doesn’t have an email address it increases our costs subsctainally to communicate with that keeper in the future. (Reminders to keep details up to date etc).
We suggest helping the keeper set up an email address, which can be done free of charge with Google , Microsoft or Apple . This is free of charge.
