How can I change microchip database?

Do you want to move to us from another database? Find out how to do that in this article.

It’s absolutely possible to change microchip database, although it’s not the easiest thing in the world to do. Why isn’t it easy?

Well, that’s because as microchip databases we have a responsibility to the animal and to the pet owner we have stored on our database. We all must do our checks to ensure the transfer is legitimate.

This guide aims to give you all the information you need to change microchip database.

The agreed process with most databases is:

  1. You as the keeper/owner should first contact the existing microchip database letting them know you want to move and letting them know to which database
  2. The existing database should then reach out to the new database and let them know including the details of the new keeper
  3. The new database will then help the owner/keeper register on the new database. 🙂

Change of Database requests are extremely time-consuming for our team. Currently, we're only accepting transfers for those customers who have MyPet Premium. If you'd like to transfer to our database. Find out more about MyPet Premium here: https://mypethq.io/microchip-database-pricing/

First up a few pointers:

  1. A microchip database may insist that you are the current registered person on their database.
  2. Some databases offer awful customer service, unfortunately. We’re happy to help where we can here!

Here’s a how-to guide for the larger databases in the UK:

Petlog

If you are the current registered keeper of the pet you can request a transfer HERE.

If you’re not the current registered keeper you can email them here: customer.relations@petlog.org.uk

What if I don't hear back from the database I wish to move from?

We recommend giving the database 7 working days to respond. If you haven’t heard back from them in that time, let us know by opening a support ticket above.

We will then do several things:

  • We will assist in getting your pet registered temporarily.
  • We will reach out to the database on your behalf
  • If we don’t hear back within 7 days we will mark your registration as complete.
  • We will recommend you continue to contact the database in question to remove your details.

If you’re unhappy with the service you received or didn’t get a response from the original database we recommend reporting the database to the AMDO here: https://www.amdo.org.uk/report-a-database/
